Solanteq. Building a Deposit System
As part of a banking processing implementation for a client in the CIS, we developed a system for managing deposits and investment products, designed for production deployment within the bank's infrastructure.
The project followed a vendor model, which placed additional demands on architecture quality, scalability, and versatility. Beyond functional completeness, the system had to be ready for deployment at multiple banks, adaptation to regulatory requirements, and integration with existing banking systems.
Objectives and Constraints
The core objective was to build a deposit module covering the full lifecycle of a retail deposit product. The calculation scenarios and financial accuracy requirements were especially challenging: support for floating and fixed rates, early termination, correct accrual and withholding of personal income tax, and generation of payment flows and events for external systems.
The timeline was tight: the full cycle, from architecture design to delivery of a production-ready solution, had to be completed within 6 months. This covered development, internal testing, acceptance, preparation of the delivery environment, documentation, and setting up release cycles.
Project Scope
The project delivered functionality for managing retail deposit products with full contract lifecycle management.
Customers and Contracts
- Management of customers (individuals)
- Management of deposit contracts
- Support for one deposit product in this release
Deposit Product Lifecycle
- Interest calculation, accrual, and payout
- Personal income tax calculation, withholding, and payment
- Payment calendar management
- Early termination processing
- Contract closure and the option to reopen after the term ends
Integration APIs
A set of APIs was built to integrate the deposit module with the bank's systems:
- Retrieving customer and contract information
- Opening deposit contracts
- Early termination of contracts
- Retrieving up-to-date customer and contract status data
-
Exporting events to external systems:
- customer creation
- contract creation
- contract transactions
- Exporting payment orders for completed transactions
- Generating data for email notifications to bank staff on deposit opening events
- An API for exporting deposit contract transactions to 1C, including interest payouts and personal income tax payments
Deposit Product Features
The deposit product model included a number of business constraints and scenarios built into the calculation logic:
- No additional deposits
- No partial withdrawals
- Early termination with interest accrued at a reduced rate
-
Interest payout:
- at the end of the contract term
- or monthly on a fixed date
-
Support for:
- a fixed interest rate
- or a rate scale depending on the deposit term
- No automatic rollover
- Option to open a new contract after the previous one matures
Outcome
The result was SOLAR Deposits, a production-grade module for managing deposit and investment products, integrated into the processing platform and ready for production use and replication across various banking clients.
The module was built with a focus on a reliable calculation engine, an extensible product model, and transparent integration with external systems, which shortened implementation timelines and reduced risks in subsequent deliveries.
