Merchant Control. Fighting Illegal Casinos and Money Mules

Merchant Control

Merchant Control is a service that helps banks track down illegal online casinos and the payment details they use to collect money. This is a major industry priority: banks and the regulator are actively cracking down on money mules, and demand for solutions like this is growing fast.

I came up with Merchant Control to help banks spot participants in illegal payment schemes earlier and act on concrete findings. Under my leadership, the idea became a working service that Russian banks already use.

How it works

  • Continuous monitoring — the service tracks illegal casinos and identifies the cards and Faster Payments System (SBP) numbers they use to accept payments.
  • Solid evidence — every finding is backed by materials the bank can put to work.
  • Built for banks — a client portal, regular reports and API integration with the anti-fraud system.

Results

The service is already live at Russian banks, helping them identify customers involved in illegal business before the regulator does.
